An
Open Source Search Engine Using the LAMP stack. A few years ago, some friends and I created a basic search engine. The idea was not to become the next Google, but to provide an example for others on creating a search engine. The code includes a Web crawler with all the necessary components of a basic search engine. The downloadable code includes the MySQL database creation scripts, Perl code, and PHP interface files. We used all open source technologies. Click here to download the complete source code. You can execute this code on just about any Linux machine. To exemplify this point we had the crawler, search engine, and database running on a very old Pentium 166MHz with 32MB RAM.
